Not every job calls for high-powered tools or pressure washers. Sometimes, what’s really needed is a rope, a brush, and a determined technician willing to roll up their sleeves and get stuck in.

This recent job called for exactly that. Tasked with cleaning a seriously moss-covered and grime-stained surface, our team used rope access methods to reach the area safely — and then got to work by hand. No shortcuts, no high-pressure sprays — just traditional scrubbing with specialist cleaning agents and stiff brushes.

Why go manual? In sensitive or aged areas, using gentle mechanical action helps preserve the surface, especially when working around delicate masonry or render. It also gives us close-up control to spot cracks, water damage, or signs of deterioration — something machines can’t do.

The access route was tight, so our IRATA-trained abseiler rigged from the structural anchors above and used twin rope systems to reach the ledge safely. From there, it was all about methodical cleaning, water control, and attention to detail.

Grime, algae, and moss were removed in sections, and water was channelled to ensure runoff didn’t stain lower surfaces or leak into the building. Once complete, the area looked significantly better and was ready for follow-up works if needed.

At Peak Access Abseilers London, we believe in using the right tools for the job — even when the “tool” is a scrubbing brush and sheer persistence. Every surface has a story, and we’re here to help clean it up safely and thoroughly.
