Sometimes, even downpipes deserve a little love. We recently completed a rope access redecoration project at 1 Horse Guards Road, giving four sets of tired old downpipes a fresh new look — all while suspended above a secure government courtyard.

The job called for precision, patience, and very steady hands. With limited access and sensitive surroundings, scaffolding wasn’t an option. Instead, our IRATA-certified team used a combination of structure-based anchors and DWT (Deadweight Trolley) systems to reach each downpipe safely and efficiently.

Each location was fully prepared — including cleaning all paint off the glazed brick areas and masking off surrounding surfaces to avoid even a single drip. Our team used resin-based gloss paints, rust inhibitors, primers, and undercoats to ensure a durable, long-lasting finish, even in exposed lightwell conditions.

Security protocols were tight, so we worked with CTC-cleared escorts to ensure everything went smoothly. The team also inspected each area for defects and completed minor remedial work where required before starting the final coats of paint.

The result? Clean, crisp, and protected downpipes — and no mess left behind. All tools, waste, and materials were removed from site upon completion, keeping everything neat and professional.

This project is a great example of how Peak Access Abseilers London can deliver high-quality work at height — even in tricky or sensitive environments. Whether it’s restoration, painting, inspection, or repair, we’ve got the gear, the team, and the nerve to get it done.
